In Pitrufquen, Riley's first area, he made a good friend named Alex, who is the ward mission leader there. We are friends with Alex on Facebook so he was able to contact us to let us know Riley would be calling him. Riley was able to call Alex tonight using his cell phone. Apparently, Riley's cell is working within Chile, but he is not able to call the US. Here is what Alex reported:
i just talked with Riley!!!!he told me that he is fine, he lived in an 4th floor from an apartment in Talcahuanao, so, he felt very stronger the earthquake, but he is ok, and his apartment too, it wasn't destroyed, but he is living with 8 more missionaries in a member's house in the hill, he don't have light and water, but they are trying to finding it, the another members are helping them a lot, he don't have battery for this reason he couldn't call me before, aa, he told me that they are having their meetings but not in the chapel because it has very damaged, well, he doesn't know very much about Elder Heisen, but his zone leaders told him that Heisen is safe and good too. Well, it was that he told me, we couldn't talk very much because his battery was low, but i told him that you love him and i sent your strength , and he said that he love you very much, and he is very fine, safe, and happy because he is serving to the Lord, he said that, don't care for him, he is fine, and his Mission President will visit them tomorrow.
that is all for now, i'll follow informing you soon
bye family
(note from mom: the main thing that bothers me is Riley not having water, hopefully the mission president will take care of that tomorrow)

Wow -- that's so good to read and hear that Riley and all the missionaries are good and safe. Moments like these make the world being small enough through technology such a blessing! We love you guys!
So great to get word. I know no water and power sounds very difficult and scary. It sounds like they are being cared for by the mission. Hopefully, his note means there is no running water and the mission is able to bring in water that is needed.
Wow! I'm sure a lot of Riley's Scouting experience will come into play and be useful during these "roughing it" times. What a trooper and all those surviving each day.
Love you Riley & Harper Family!
